Summary

Biography

Leanne Cameron is a final-year doctoral student in the University of Bristol’s PhD in Education program. She works on teacher professionalism and epistemic networks of English language teachers in Rwanda, considering the spaces where local teachers accept, modify, and reject the powerful discourses about English language pedagogy and methodology. She has worked on additional research projects concerned with international doctoral students and epistemic diversity, language-supportive pedagogy, teachers as agents of peacebuilding in post-conflict nations, and STEM opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.

In her work as an English language professional, she has worked with teacher, learner, and researcher groups throughout Africa and Asia. Her most recent project was with Tea Leaf Vision, a post-secondary school in central Sri Lanka, which provides education and career development opportunities to the children of marginalised tea plantation workers. Prior to commencing doctoral studies, she worked  as a teacher trainer with the U.S. Department of State in Rwanda, program lead and curriculum developer at California State University, Sacramento’s English Language Institute, and volunteer coordinator for English and literacy programs for resettled refugees through the Northern California office for the International Rescue Committee.
