We examine the multiple, changing, social contexts, processes and practices which shape the opportunities for teaching and learning, and therefore the lives of learners. These social contexts are now increasingly global as well as regional, and impinge upon, and construct, learners and institutions in new ways with different outcomes for individuals, groups and communities.
