My academic concern is to develop ways for tackling inequalities in the wider educational system, and explore the extent to which education enables social justice. In this context, my PhD research and current ESRC Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Postdoctoral Fellowship, deal with the need of building inclusive and fair school systems that take into account the unequal educational field when assessing students’ learning outcomes. I have also developed a career as an author of 30 published children's books and the last one, "Noelia's diary" published in Dec. 2016 in Chile, is a fictional diary about growing up under dictatorship. Through this experience I  have expanded my academic interest towards the key role of children's literature in general and fiction in particular, when dealing with political post-conflict memory and justice.
