Life and death in the first complex ecosystems: the ecology and evolution of the Ediacara Biota

My current research is focused on the Ediacara Biota concentrating on taphonomy, ecology and evolution.

I am studying the diversity of Cnidarians and conducting laboratory based experimental decay on a model organism from the Cnidaria, the polypoid Actinia equina, identifying morphological characters and mapping sequences and rates of decay and the resulting potential preservational biases. These results will be used to provide comparative data that can be related to fossils from the Ediacaran.
