My research focuses on crystal specific studies of volcanic rocks using in-situ micro-analytical techniques to unravel the pre-eruptive history of an eruption/volcanic centre. My present research involves a variety of novel secondary ion microprobe (SIMS) techniques to determine the relative chemical composition across interfaces within crystals at the sub-micron scale. This permits the timescales of magmatic processes in the lead up to eruption to be investigated through diffusional modelling techniques. Currently, I am working on volcanic arc centres in New Zealand and the USA.
