Summary

My research in metamorphic petrology focuses on the processes controlling the physical and chemical responses of rocks as they follow time, temperature, depth and strain trajectories in the Earth’s dynamic crust.

I presently study the mineral chemistry, petrology, textures and field relations of rocks from two different geological and temporal settings. In Greenland, the goal is improved understanding of the thickness, growth, thermal structure and thermal evolution of Archaean crust; while research in the Cycladic Islands (Greece) aims to unravel the mechanisms involved in material transfer from the subducted crust to the mantle.

I apply classic field and petrographic methods, as well as electron microprobe analysis, scanning electron microscopy and laser-ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Biography

I started my studies at the University of Akron (Akron, Ohio, USA) where I earned Bachelor of Science (Geology), Bachelor of Arts (History), Master of Science (Geology); my MS thesis was "Geology of Precambrian and Paleozoic Rocks on Part of Western Casper Mountain, Natrona County, Wyoming". I went on to a PhD (Geology) at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts, USA where I completed my disssertation: "Stratigraphic, Geochemical, Petrologic Studies of the Ammonoosuc Volcanics, North-Central Massachusetts and Southwestern New Hampshire". During my time as a doctoral student, I had the opporunity to contribute to  The Mineralogical Society of America Reviews in Mineralogy volume 9B: "Phase relations of metamorphic amphiboles: Natural occurrence and theory. In D. R. Veblen and P. H. Ribbe, eds., Amphiboles: Petrology and experimental phase relations".
