Summary

Biography

I'm a teaching-focused Lecturer in the School of Earth Sciences and a member of the Volcanology and Petrology research groups. I studied for my B.S. (2003) and M.S. (2005) in Geology at the University of Oregon, then moved to the U.K. in 2008, where I discovered cream tea and have stayed ever since. In 2009, I came to Bristol to do my PhD in volcanology, finishing in 2013. I also spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at Durham University before starting my current post. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the advisory board of AGU's community-based science initiative, the Thriving Earth Exchange.

Teaching

I teach and co-teach a number of courses in the School of Earth Sciences, with emphasis on our School's field curriculum.  I'm the unit coordinator for our 3rd year Independent Fieldwork programme for geologists and previously coordinated Introduction to Mapping, a field-based course in geologic mapping for all 1st year students.  I run modules on field methods and map interpretation for 1st year (as part of Geology 1) and 2nd year students (as part of Mapping, Tectonics and Remote Sensing). I am also the unit coordinator for Independent Development of Geological Skills, an independent, synoptic, practical-based course for 3rd year geologists.  I currently serve as our School's First Year Coordinator and sit on the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Committee (TLAC).
