Research summary

I am interested in the atomic-scale structure and properties of materials under extreme conditions using in situ synchrotron x-ray and neutron scattering techniques, made at central facilities, including Diamond Light Source (UK), the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (France), the Institut-Laue Langevin (France), and the Petra III synchrotron (Germany).
Specific projects and techniques include:
  • Liquid and supercooled liquid / glass structure.
  • In situ laser-heated diamond anvil cell experiments.
  • Synchrotron x-ray scattering experiments to investigate sub-solidus phase relations, melting and partitioning behaviour in the Earth's lower mantle.
  • Pair distribution function measurements of aluminosilicate magmas under the high ...
