Dr Douglas Robinson

My research is in the field of very low-grade metamorphism, and aims to establish if geochemical and mineralogical changes at low temperatures – in the range 100- 300°C – can be understood in terms of equilibrium order and/or kinetically-controlled reaction progress.

Identifying the character of the controlling process will help to elucidate crustal development occurring in the continental and oceanic rocks in the outer zones of orogenic belts. Current work is in the Argentinian and Chilean Andes, where I am trying to distinguish between opposing models of basin formation, terrane docking and subduction, based on the evolution of low-grade metamorphic rocks.
