Surface complexation of metals on mineral surfaces (Supervisor: Prof Dave Sherman)

I am researching the interactions between heavy metals and mineral surfaces within an environmental context. I am interested in the geochemistry of mine waste deposits and the enviromental legacy of mining, where the acidity and dissolved metals that are often generated can cause serious harm to ecosystems. With an understanding of the partitioning of metals between the aqueous and solid phases present, we can make more accurate models of contaminant fate at these ubiquitous sites.
