Research summary

The Clinical Trials Unit is in the international arena of research with regards to toothwear (erosion, attrition, abrasion and abfraction), tooth bleaching, tooth staining, dentine hypersensitivity, prevention of plaque and gingivitis and treatment of diseases of the periodontium, and soft and hard tissue regeneration in periodontology and implantology . The studies are carried out both within the Clinical Trials Unit at the Bristol Dental School in dedicated laboratories and clinical environment, and in General Dental Practice in the UK. Biography

Professor Nicola West is a graduate of the University of Wales College of Medicine (Cardiff). After attaining her fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Nicola was awarded her PhD from the University of Wales (Cardiff) in 1995, on dentine hypersensitivity and tooth surface loss. Nicola gained her chair in Periodontology at Bristol Dental School, where she conducts research, leading the Clinical Trials Unit and attracting substantial industrial funding.
