Dr Sofia Theodoropoulou

Biography

I am an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Bristol and senior specialty registrar in clinical ophthalmology at the Bristol Eye Hospital, UK. My research training including post-doctoral work, includes ocular angiogenesis and immunology. Whilst clinically training with particular focus on uveitis and retina, I am continuing my research as a National Institute for Health Research funded clinician scientist and investigating the immunology of age-related macular degeneration.

My research work is directed at revealing immune-mediated mechanisms in age-related macular degeneration to provide novel therapeutic targets. In 2016, I was awarded the Global Ophthalmology Research Award from Bayer.
