I worked for 2 years as a research assistant at the Sanger Institute, Cambridge, working towards identifying somatic mutations that lead to the development of cancer. I joined the Dementia Research Group in 2006 as a DNA technician, involved in the upkeep of DNA banks and databases and co-ordination of genotyping projects to investigate variations in susceptibility genes in Alzheimer?s disease. I recently completed my PhD, funded by BRACE, looking at the role of plasmin, an A-beta degrading enzyme, in Alzheimer?s disease. I have since begun a three year post-doctoral position funded by the MRC measuring synaptic and neuronal markers in human tissue for the Cognitive Function and Ageing Studies (CFAS). I have also been investigating ischaemia and white matter alterations in different types of dementia.
