Research summary

The overall goal of my present and future research consists of developing more effective strategies to treat limb and myocardial ischaemia. My research also addresses diabetes-related microvascular complications, in particular impaired angiogenesis and wound healing. To achieve these aims, our group is applying state of the art concepts in the new field of therapeutic angiogenesis, which postulates that local delivery of growth factors that can promote clinically valuable increase in blood flow. Prof. P. Madeddu, is Chair of Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine and Head of the Section of Regenerative Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Bristol, where he relocated in 2005. He was previously Associate Professor at the Medical University of Sassari and Head of Gene Therapy Department at the Inter-University Consortium of Biosystems and Biostructures, Porto Conte Technological Park, Italy. He is Associate Editor for Circulation Research, ATVB, Pharmacology &Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicine. Previously, he was Associate Editor for the British Journal of Pharmacology.
