Mike studied Medicine in Bristol with an intercalated BSc in Cellular and Molecular Pathology (1998), graduating in 2001. He completed his house jobs at North Bristol before taking up an Anatomy Demonstrator post at Birmingham University in 2002. His Basic Surgical Training was conducted on the Bristol Royal Infirmary rotation and he gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005. His higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics commenced in South West Thames in 2007 before he returned to the Bristol rotation in 2008.
