Dr Kathreena Kurian runs the Brain Tumour Research Group, Institute of Clinical Neuroscience, University of Bristol.

She is lead neuropathologist for brain tumour research at Frenchay Hospital, and runs Brain Tumour Bank South West (BRASH).

She undertook medical training in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London where she also achieved a BSc in Experimental Pathology. She undertook higher pathology and neuropathology clinical (FRCPath Neuro) and research training including an MD (Medical Faculty Research Fellowship) in Edinburgh and Cambridge.

She sits on the National Cancer Research Institute, Brain Tumour Group.

She is on the Board of Trustees for the Science Centre At Bristol.

Biography

 

Dr Kathreena Kurian is the lead expert neuropathologist for brain tumour research at Frenchay Hospital.
She undertook medical training in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London where she also achieved a BSc in Experimental Pathology. She undertook higher pathology and neuropathology clinical (FRCPath Neuro) and research training including an MD (Medical Faculty Research Fellowship) in Edinburgh and Cambridge.
She specialises in both adult and paediatric brain tumours, having published on microarray technology and brain tumour stem cells, and has written editorials on DNA chip technology, recent advances in gliomas and the impact of neural stem cell biology on CNS carcinogenesis and tumour types.
She is responsible for the set up of BRASH (Brain Tumour bank South West) whereby clinicians/researchers can access tumour samples from consented patients in order to carry out trials of new therapies and relate this to clinical and genetic data.
