I have been working in horticulture since leaving school at the age of 16. My first job at St. Agnes gardens, was in the grounds of a convent in the Knowle area of Bristol. During my 3 and a half years working there, I exhibited fuchsias at several flower shows.

In 1979, following a short period working in a garden centre, I went to work at Long Ashton Research station and remained there for 23 years. Following its closure in 2002, I started work at Wildwalk - AT-Bristol, in the botanical house as Senior horticulturist. When the botanical house manager left in 2005 to start a family, I was installed as the new botanical house manager.

In June 2007, following Wildwalk's closure, I started work here at the School of Biological Sciences, as a Horticultural Technician in the School's Experimental Glasshouses. Following the opening of the new Bristol Life Sciences Building in 2014 which included a new "GroDome" greenhouse on the roof, I was installed as Greenhouse Manager for the school.
