Area of research

Investigating the social, spatial and vocal ecology of the Sahamalaza sportive lemur, Lepilemur sahamalazensis, in north-west Madagascar.

Summary

My PhD project is on the social, spatial and vocal ecology of a little known primate, the Sahamalaza sportive lemur, Lepilemur sahamalazensis. On the ecological sideI am looking at how they are organised socially and how forest fragmentation influences their spatial distribution. Going into bioacoustics, I am investigating the vocal repertoire of this species, the call functions and how this data canbe integrated into conservation management.

Summary of research interests: ecology, conservation, primatology, social behaviour

Biography

2014 - current    PhD student, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK

2011 - 2013      MSc by Res in Animal Cognition and Welfare, University of Lincoln, Lincoln, UK

2007 - 2011      BSc in Biology, University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria

My previous work and research experience includes investigating the social cognition of blue-fronted amazons (Amazona aestiva) and red-footed tortoises (Geochelon carbonaria), researching kin-bonds between adult greylag geese (Anser anser) and working on behavioural syndromes (or "coping-styles") in cichlids (Neolamprologus caudopunctatus).
