Activities / Findings

The world is a complex physical environment that makes up an intrinsic component of our living environment. I have demonstrated that atmospheric physical phenomena can drive microbial processes and invertebrate behavior, which serves as a cornerstone in a novel and central avenue of empirical research studying the interactions between atmospheric electrical phenomena and biological systems. As an experimental ecologist with an ecosystem perspective, my work ranges from unravelling mechanisms in strongly controlled laboratory settings to assessing their relevance in more natural settings (e.g. outdoor mesocosms) as well as field validations. Collectively, my research has highlighted the importance of considering ecosystem connectivity if we want to fully understand our living environment and its vulnerability to human disturbances.
