Areas of expertise |
I have been working within the dementia research group for 7 years. Our main focus is looking at several mechanisms by which Alzheimer's disease may develop. I am interested in a substance called amyloid which often accumulates in the blood vessels of the brain of someone with Alzheimer's disease. I have been investigating how the amyloid in the blood vessels may affect the development of Alzheimer's.
I am also interested in another substance called tau which accumulates within brain cells to form tangles. I am currently investigating whether or not these tangles interfere with important brain cell survival functions which are vital for the cells' survival.
