Areas of expertise |
My research concerns the relationship between information processing and emotion in humans and animals, and the use that can be made of cognitive biases for assessing core affective or mood states in non-human animals. In particular, I have theoretical interests in the structure and functions of subjective affective states, and their evolution in non-human animals. The processes involved in emotional empathy in humans and non-human animals is also an area of interest and research. In addition, I pursue investigations in the field of human-animal interactions, supervising research projects into the psycho-social roles played by companion animals in elderly owners, and the changing attitudes of veterinary students towards animal welfare.
