Areas of expertise |
I extract records of past climate and environmental conditions from coral and cave deposits. The purpose is to understand the role of the tropics in climate variability and to document how terrestrial and reef ecosystems respond to environmental stressors. I apply a wide range of techniques including synchrotron-based methods, isotope geochemistry, trace elements, organic biomarkers, and morphometrics.
My current focus is on coral biomineralization (to monitor past coral bleaching events and quantify the impact of ocean acidification) and documenting seasonal to millennial-scale dynamics of the Australian monsoon. I work in Papua New Guinea and the Great Barrier Reef, Australia.
