Areas of expertise |
I specialise in nineteenth and twentieth-century American (U.S.) history, especially environmental history (the study of human relations with the rest of the natural world over time). My interest in environmental history is not confined to the United States.
My current research interests focus on two areas: rivers and militarized landscapes. I have begun work on a book about rivers and I am Principal Investigator for a 3-year research project ('Militarized Landscapes in the Twentieth Century: Britain, France and the United States’) funded by the AHRC’s Landscape and Environment Programme.
