Areas of expertise |
My principal interest is modern German social and political history, though not military history. I have published mainly on the German Democratic Republic (communist East Germany), and teach on this and on current German politics and constitutional history. I also work on communism and extremism in the politics of interwar Austria.

Media experience |
I was involved in the production of a BBC Radio 4 programme about the downfall of Erich Honecker, and when younger (prior to joining the University) presented children's features for BBC Radio Brighton and Southern Television. I was a member of the IBA Local Radio Advisory Committee for Sussex.
