Areas of expertise |
I have directed groundbreaking research on many aspects of violence, abuse and gender relations, including recent work on: children and domestic violence, discipline and punishment of children in China and UK, male and female domestic violence perpetrators, abuse in same-sex relationships, and sexual exploitation.
My research is often comparative, focusing on the UK, China and Scandinavia. My work has directly influenced national health, criminal justice and family policy and practice. I am NSPCC Fresh Start Professor of Child Sexual Exploitation. I served on the Home Affairs Select Committee on 'Domestic violence, Forced Marriage and "Honour"-based Violence', and was Research Director to the Department of Health 'Victims of Violence and Abuse Prevention Programme'.
