Areas of expertise First, I was a veterinary surgeon in mixed practice in Scotland and in Berkshire where I carried out farm and companion animal clinical work, and wildlife clinical work related to birds and marine mammals and OVS (Official Veterinary Surgeon) carrying out statutory disease work. Then I moved to Langford to do a PhD and stayed as a research fellow and senior research fellow in Clinical Veterinary Science. I have been involved in research, teaching, and the promotion of Animal Welfare through outreach and training programmes and through committee positions. I have a strong belief in the practical value of animal welfare science and the potential application of what we already know about the lives of animals to protect, and where possible, improve, the lives of farmed, companion and wild animals.
