Modulation of Neurotransmitter Release
My main interests are the intracellular signalling mechanisms which control release of neurotransmitters from central neurones. More specifically we are focusing on the following questions:
• How do neuromodulators such as angiotensin II affect release of noradrenaline?
• Which intracellular second messenger pathways are responsible for changing the release properties?
• What are the physiological consequences of these effects for synaptic transmission, i.e. the neuronal output from a particular brain area? We are addressing these questions by using a combination of electrophysiological (patch clamp and amperometry), optical (confocal imaging of living brain slice cultures), molecular (viral gene transfer) and pharmacological tools.
