Areas of expertise |
My main research field is located in the Sociology of Gender and Families. My research interests also include feminist activism, new class studies, temporality and the sociology of Intellectual Pleasure.
I am currently working on developing some of the themes of my thesis, Doing/Narrating Motherhood: The Gendered and Classed Moralities of Younger and Older Mothers into journal articles. These include work on how mothers engage in practices of ‘othering’ to claim good motherhood identities, and mapping the links between gender, time and morality. This qualitative study of younger and older mothers explores how mothers negotiate dominant discourses of good mothering and shows that the categories of age and social class intersect to powerfully shape childrearing practices and the constructions of their moral maternal selves.
