Areas of expertise |
The main focus of my research is on the syntax of the dialects of Italy, both early and modern, but I also publish on the current sociolinguistic situation in Italy and I am particularly interested in the question of minority languages. Since 2000 I have been co-directing a major AHRB-funded collaborative research project with the University of Manchester entitled, Sintassi degli antichi volgari d'Italia (SAVI) (Syntax of the early vernaculars of Italy). I organise the Incontro di dialettologia italiana at Bristol each year and I have close links with the Departments of Linguistics at the universities of Padua and Naples.
I have published a detailed sociolinguistic and grammatical analysis of a northern Italian dialect, Parluma 'D Còiri, Sociolinguistica e grammatica del dialetto di Cairo Montenotte, Savona, Società Savonese di Storia Patria Italy (2005).
