I act as the national reporter for the Yearbook of European Tort Law, published on behalf of the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law, and I have been involved in several of the Centre's other projects. I am a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Law and Society (2004-present), UK correspondent for the Torts Law Journal (2005-present) and Convenor of the Society of Legal Scholars' Torts Section (2005-present).

My main fields of research are tort law and compensation. I am author of Torts (Palgrave Macmillan) (with Alastair Mullis), which is now in its third edition (2003); and Tort Law: Text & Materials (OUP) (with Mark Lunney), which is now in its second edition (2003). I am also general editor of the practitioner work, The Law of Tort, which is part of the Butterworths Common Law Series.
