Areas of expertise |
My main area of expertise is security studies with particular reference to Iraq and world politics from the period of sanctions (1990-2003), invasion and occupation (2003-04) and post-occupation (2004 onwards).
I served as the specialist adviser to the Select Committee on Economic Affairs of the House of Lords for its inquiry on UK policy on economic sanctions (2006-07). I also gave oral and written evidence on the occupation of Iraq to the Select Committee on Defence of the House of Commons (2007).
I am co-author (with Glen Rangwala) of 'Iraq in Fragments: The Occupation of Iraq and its Legacy' (Cornell University Press and C. Hurst, 2006). This book was written as part of research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
