Areas of expertise |
My research interests include methods for: (a) monitoring outcomes after surgery, (b) predicting short and long term outcomes after heart surgery across multiple centres and (c) evaluating the benefit of heart transplantation compared to medical therapy for patients with different risk profiles, using Cox regression modelling with time varying covariates with exponential decay. A range of methods for monitoring performance exist; we have used sequential probability ratio tests (SPRT) to evaluate and compare outcomes after heart surgery for consultants and trainees and monitor 30-day mortality after heart and lung transplantation across UK centres. Current work focuses on using simulation methods to compare the ability of different methods to identify specified performance changes for low volume operations.
