Areas of expertise |
My research is in the politics of development and the intersection between politics and theology. I am interested in bringing theological perspectives when considering the problems of politics and development. I studied at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, specialising on South East Asia, and Vietnam this was the basis of my PhD.
I have publishing in areas such as local politics, corruption, state enterprise reform, the politics of aid, and political change. I am still interested in development politics but work less on Vietnam due to my theological interests. I now combine my academic work with the post of Canon Theologian at Bristol Cathedral where I am responsible for its social justice work. My work as a priest, initially in inner city Bristol, has influenced the change in my research interests, broadening my thinking about development to include issues of poverty and marginality in the global north.
