| Areas of expertise | My principal interests lie in German literature and history since 1750, and in the interplay of literature, historiography and history. I have published on Schiller and Goethe, on perceptions of the Thirty Years War in the 'long nineteenth century' (1790-1920), on the historian Leopold von Ranke and on the twentieth-century author Alfred Döblin. I am currently working on Döblin's literary response to exile during Nazism and his return to Germany in 1945. |
