Areas of expertise |
I have conducted several prospective randomised trials to validate the effect of off-pump coronary surgery on sub-system organ dysfunction, mortality, morbidity, quality of life, and hospital costs. Other prospective randomised studies have focused on the use of different techniques of myocardial protection in hypertrophic hearts of patients undergoing aortic valve surgery.
I am performing mitral and aortic valve repair surgery and left ventricular reconstruction surgery using innovative technical approches, which are being currently tested versus conventional techniques.
I am directing a new research area on the use of adult stem cells for myocardial repair in patients with ischemic heart disease with ongoing in-vitro work on bone marrow-derived stem cells, and two clinical trials about to start in patients with end-stage ischemic heart disease.
