Areas of expertise |
My approach is interdisciplinary. My doctoral research into peace movements in the First World War developed into a study of internationalism at the fin de siècle, with a particular focus on cosmopolitan individuals, and the cultural infrastructures of internationalism (societies, exhibitions, institutions). My involvement with the exhibition Literary Circles: Artist, Author, Word and Image in Britain 1800–1920 (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, 17 October–30 December 2006) led to an interest in relationships between word and image, late Victorian children’s illustration, and the uses of visual art in education.
