Areas of expertise |
I extract information about past climates from rocks and fossils that were deposited in semi-enclosed marine systems like the Mediterranean. These data are important because they allow us to test the climate models that are being used to make predictions of future climate change by running them in the past.
I have also worked extensively in Sakhalin, the Russian island north of Japan. Most of my research focussed on the tectonic evolution of the island and the Amur delta in which substantial hydrocarbon reserves are now being exploited.
