Areas of expertise |
I am a specialist in the archaeology of the Mediterranean during the Iron Age. My areas of focus have been Sicily, Italy, Turkey and North Africa, and encompass themes such as post-colonial perspectives, globalisation, and identity.
I am also an expert in the archaeology of Turkey, especially of the first millennium BCE. I co-direct the Çaltılar project in Lycia, which is identifying for the first time the later Bronze and Early Iron Ages in this region of the Mediterranean. Previously, I worked for many years at Kinet Höyük (Hatay), famous as ancient Issos, where Alexander the Great met the Persian emperor Darius III in 333 BCE.
