Areas of expertise |
My research interests have been largely focused on understanding mechanisms that underlie cardiac injury in order to improve techniques of myocardial protection during open-heart surgery.
The following are specific areas of research: 1- Investigate the efficacy of different cardioplegic techniques during adult and paediatric open-heart surgery. 2- Characterise cardiac amino acid transporters and investigate their potential role in cardioprotection. 3- Investigate the role of mitochondrial pore inhibitors in protecting the immature heart during ischaemia and reperfusion.
