My main research interests are in Silver Age literature, Pushkin, and nineteenth-century poetry. My many publications on the Acmeist poets Akhmatova and Gumilev make wide reference to the writings of their predecessors and elder, Symbolist contemporaries, on whom I have been working for many years.
I am one of the editors of the Russian ten-volume edition of Nikolai Gumilev's works, and I have also edited English editions of Gumilev's works. I have recently completed a survey article on the development of Russian Symbolism, and I am writing at present on Sologub and Khodasevich, as well as continuing to prepare publications on Gumilev and Mandel'shtam. Other recent research has been devoted to Pushkin (I have, for example, written a student edition of A.S. Pushkin's The Bronze Horseman for Bristol Classical Press). I am currently planning a book on the development of nineteenth-century Russian poetry.
