Areas of expertise |
My interests include sociology of education, particularly teachers' work and professional identity, pupil perspectives on learning and comparative education and adult learning.
I have directed or co-directed several ESRC funded projects: these include Systems, Teachers, and Educational Policy (STEP), Quality in Experiences of Schooling Trans-Nationally (QUEST) and Education and National Culture: a comparative study of attitudes to secondary schooling (ENCOMPASS) and a study funded by QCA comparing primary school children's learning strategies in England and France. I was also the Senior Researcher on the ESRC funded PACE project (Primary Assessment, Curriculum and Experience)and directed the transfer strand on the ESRC funded HSKE (Home, School Knowledge Exchange project).
Other research included the European Union project on The Management of Human Resources in Education with research collaborators in France, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Canada.
