medsin national
conference
bristol 06
spacer.gif Travel

Here at Bristol we are keen to keep the conference as environmentally friendly as possible. This is especially relevant considering the huge impacts on health that the environment, and especially climate change, can have. Getting to the conference is obviously very important, but unfortunately it may involve burning some fossil fuels along the way. By choosing carefully how we travel, we can try and reduce these carbon emissions and live a slightly more sustainable life.

Some rough facts and figures:

  • For all of us 6 billion people on the planet to live sustainable, each person should only emit 2 tonnes of CO2 per year.
  • The average UK person produces about 10 tonnes of CO2 per year.
  • The return trip from Manchester, in the average new European car, will release about 0.09 tonnes of CO2. Sharing the car journey down will not only save you petrol money, but will reduce your carbon footprint.
  • A return flight from Manchester will leave you responsible for about 0.27 tonnes of CO2, that’s 1/8th of what you should ideally produce in a year!
  • If you travel by train from Manchester your footprint will be roughly 0.04 tonnes of CO2.
  • And if you walk you might be a bit late.......

So, please try and travel with trains, coaches, share lifts, and only fly if you really have to!!

If you already know someone here and have specific preferences, do specify on your forms and we will try our very best to accommodate everyone. However, please make sure you REGISTER EARLY (like?.NOW!) to avoid disappointment!
