You have arrived at our ethics page!

In this section of the web, you will find information about ethics in research.  The information is collected here for those who are carrying out research in Deaf Studies - as undergraduates, postgraduates or as staff in a research project.

The site is developing and additions and comments are welcomed.

Why is this topic important?

Who is this section for?

All projects in the Centre for Deaf Studies have to be presented to the Internal Ethics Committee for consideration, before the researcher begins work.  Where external contacts are involved - letters, questionnaires, interviews - these need to be approved by the Ethics Committee - PRIOR TO THEIR USE. This section is directed at anyone who is carrying out or is planning to carry out research with Deaf people and in the area of Deaf Studies.  It is mandatory for all students of the Centre for Deaf Studies in the University of Bristol.

External Bodies

Resources and Training

In some projects eg where personal records are to be accessed, the approval has to come from an external ethics committee.

You can find more details on the forms page.

There are many resources on the web which will give information on the issues of ethics in research.  There are also on-line courses (see the weblinks page)
