The Centre for Deaf Studies has an Ethics Committee which meets
periodically to deal with issues of research and also to examine
research proposals. All proposals for undergraduate (BSc), postgraduate (MSc, MPhil and PhD) is examined by this group. Work should not be carried out or begun without first obtaining approval from the committee. These rules apply also to research projects whether funded internally, or externally and even when there is no funding at all. The committee does not examine the research validity in the sense of its contribution to the field but simply examines the appropriateness of the conduct of the research and the use of the data. The committee's involvement is not meant to act as an obstacle but to protect and guide new researchers and to support experienced workers. If you are applying for an externally funded research project, you
will need to read the University guidelines and complete the checklist.
You will find the details here on the
University research
site where you will also find the checklist concerning sponsorship.
