Areas of expertise As an educationist, I work in the field of assessment and its impact on teaching and learning arguing the need for more attention to be paid to 'learning power' and emotional intelligence.

The future of Social Science and the availability of data through large scale longitudinal surveys. I chair the Governing Board of the largest longitudinal survey in the world which will transform the data available for policy-making and potentially for other groups such as business.

Recently I have become a member of the University of Bristol Cabot Institute for research on Sustainable Futures and have developed expertise on education for sustainability.
