Areas of expertise Since joining Bristol University in 1993 I have undertaken research, both nationally and internationally, on issues relating to; Governance and public policy; the welfare state citizenship in comparative perspective; homelessness and social exclusion; housing – including the resale of former council homes; attitudes to home ownership and the problems of negative equity; and illegal eviction in the private rented sector.

Current projects include `Women and Material Assets in Britain and Japan’, funded by The Institute for Household Economy, Japan, and `Cohesive Neighbourhoods and Connected Citizens in European Societies’ funded by the European Science Foundation.

My current work includes research on differentiated citizenship and the politics of the post-fordist city in European societies; and economic insecurity and homeownership in cross-national perspective. I am also interested in the relationship between globalization, governance and public policy and the challenges and opportunities this presents for cross-national, comparative analysis.
