The unit deals with the digital, technological aspects of global operations and supply chain/network processes. It will introduce students to a range of digital technologies (e.g. Sensors, IoT’s, RFID, Bar code, etc.) and issues related to information systems in global operations, logistics and supply chains. The theories and principles underpinning supply chain technologies and their implementation in practice are presented and discussed. The interactions between supply chain entities, physical items and transportation are considered, analysed and examined. This unit will also enrich the practical skills and knowledge of students related to supply chain technology, enabling them to effectively contribute towards a supply chain, global operations, and logistics-related role. Indicative content includes; Supply chain technology, Technological advancement in supply chains, Radio frequency identification (RFID), NFC Chips, Electronic data interchange (EDI), E-procurement, E-business, E-SCM, Information systems, Material requirements planning (MRP), Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Warehouse management systems (WMS), Virtual enterprises, Challenges and barriers to technology implementation, Digitalization of supply networks including automation, Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data analytics for supply chains.

Teaching will be delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions including lectures, tutorials, drop-in sessions, discussion boards and other online learning opportunities.
Formative: This will include an individual analysis of a case study and feedback on the outline and theoretical concepts relevant to the case (ILOs 1,2). A formative group presentation analysing supply chain management, with peer review feedback and formative assessment by tutor (ILOs 1, 2).
Summative Assignment 1: Group 35% weighting
2500 words group assignment including all text, for example, references, all text in tables, and figures and appendices (which will incorporate the feedback from the group presentation). ILOs 3 and 4.
Summative Assignment 2: Individual 65% weighting
Integrated Assignment with EFIMM0072 Strategic Operations Management (3500 words). ILOs 1, 2 and 3. The purpose of this integrated coursework is to demonstrate students’ understanding of how an organisation sets itself up to deliver customer requirements and critically analyse how disruptive technologies (such as artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, 3D printing, Internet-of-Thing, and augmented reality) can be used to improve their product/service offering. Students are required to conduct a management consultancy project on an organisation that offers a range of services or products (or a single service or product) and select an operation of your chosen organisation. To complete the coursework, students are asked to answer six tasks related to the two units. Tasks 1, 2, & 3 are related to EFIMM0072 Strategic Operations Management, and Tasks 4, 5 and 6 are related to EFIMM0075 Supply Chain Technology and Digitalisation.
Resit: If a student fails this unit (i.e., the combined mark of individual and group assessments for EFIM0075), the student will only resit for the failed unit. Students will not take the integrative assignment again. Instead, a separate resit assignment is prepared for each unit.

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an
assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
