This unit is offered by the School of Law primarily for the benefit of Economics and Accountancy students. This unit deals with some basic aspects of English law as it relates to business. The elements studied are: sources of English law, including a brief introduction to law of the EU; the tort of negligence; brief introduction to employment law; and an overview of both contract law and company law.
By the end of the unit, a successful student will be able to critically analyse legal issues involving contract, tort, employment and company law.
20 lectures and 10 tutorials
Formative assessment: One 1-hour examination in January, in which students answer 1 question. Summative assessment: One 3-hour closed book examination in May/June, in which students answer 4 questions.
