Description including Unit Aims

The unit will provide a structured and supervised opportunity for final year Joint Honours students to pursue independent projects to agreed topics of interest within the areas of performance or screen studies. The units comprises a 7,500-word essay.

Aims

  • To present a clear, well-structured and extended argument, supported by relevant critical and theoretical literature, that additionally develops independent lines of inquiry
  • To provide the opportunity for students to extend their knowledge and experience of the discipline through independent study;
  • To enable students to develop and apply appropriate scholarly means of enquiry into a chosen aspect of the discipline;

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • To demonstrate knowledge of, and use creatively, a wider range of secondary literature than at Level I
  • To apply with consistent competence a range of established critical and theoretical ideas and to develop a critical approach towards them
  • To present work that is highly assured in its use of English and referencing
  • To plan and execute an independent research project

Supervision x 5 (10 hours)

Assessment Information

7,500-word essay = 100% of total mark
