This unit will introduce students to the fundamental skills of research, including the use of the library and basic academic conventions. It also enables and encourages the development of academic voice through participation in and reflection upon research presentations.
Students will understand the basic academic conventions of presenting work orally and in writing, quoting and citing academic work and proposing a research topic in abstract form. Students will be able to make correct use of footnotes and bibliography. Students will also have observed and participated in research presentations and reflected critically on individual differences in academic voice.
